Results: where is the same train ticket cheapest?
2392 trains compared on 81 routes · 12 sellers · checked 13 Oct 2026 to 20 Oct 2026
Key findings
- On 64 of 71 routes, a railway of the origin or destination country was most often the cheapest seller.
- On 10 of 81 routes, all compared sellers always charged the same price for the same train.
- The largest difference: on Berlin – Munich, the same train cost 7.6 times as much at České dráhy (ČD) as at bahn.de (DB) (€229 instead of €30).
- Is the railway of your own country always cheapest? Mostly. For 94% of the compared trains (2121 of 2264) a railway of the origin or destination country was cheapest or as cheap as the cheapest other seller.
- Is it worth buying the ticket from a foreign railway? Sometimes. For 96 of 626 trains (15%) another railway was cheaper than the railways of the origin and destination countries, most often on the routes Munich – Verona, Innsbruck – Verona, Paris – Frankfurt. Railways not involved in the route charged a median of 1.1 times the cheapest fare.
- Are resellers like Omio more expensive? Mostly yes. Omio was cheapest for 52 of 789 compared trains and cost a median of 13 % more than the cheapest seller. An estimated service fee of about 6.5% (at least €2) is included.
The data grows every day. For routes with only a few trains the figures are still uncertain.

Across all routes: “cheapest” = lowest fare for the same train (including ties with another seller). “If more expensive”: the seller's median markup over the cheapest fare for the trains where it was not cheapest. Few trains = figures still uncertain.
